Went to try the roasted "chicken" rice set – came with cucumbers, bok choy, and fresh tomatoes, along with the classic fragrant chicken rice. The roasted "chicken," made from soy skin, had a nice crispy outside and juicy inside, drizzled with this super fragrant, flavourful oil. Wah, plus the ginger sauce and chilli sauce at the self-service counter—very sedap. It even came with a bowl of clear radish soup packed with generous chunks of carrot and radish. All these for $8—really value for money. The owner even checked if I was comfortable with their setup since they aren’t halal-certified. Very rare to find hawker staff this thoughtful, especially when it comes to these details. Great service and super thoughtful. About as close to the real thing as you can get in a dish that has no meat. The texture and mouth feel were on point. The mock chicken was fresh and crispy. Lemon sauce was very appetising and tangy. Even the rice tasted like it had been cooked in chicken stock. Somehow the very friendly owners have accomplished this, but without meat. Definitely a more guilt free party in your mouth. Note: They are also open on weekends if 初一十五falls on a weekend. The lemon chicken rice is Though personally I would prefer the soy bean skin type of "chicken" especially for the roasted variety. Also the soup is a bit too salty for my liking. Friendly uncle and great concept to focus just on "chicken" rice than the traditional vegetarian bee hoon kind of place.
