There is only ONE 1986 Viet Nam in Hong Kong. In other words, there are no other branches. There is always a reason for the crowd. This is an extremely popular dining spot in Hong Kong specializing in Northern Vietnamese cuisine. It is widely praised for its slow-cooked MSG-free flavourful broths, traditional cooking methods, and wallet-friendly prices. Their avocado smoothie is just very addictive. It is highly refreshing and creamy and balanced without being overly sweet. Another standout crowd-pleaser that keeps the restaurant highly rated and heavily queued is its lemongrass pork chop. It achieves a perfectly golden, crispy exterior while remaining incredibly tender, juicy, and moist on the inside. Looking for comfort food in To Kwa Wan? 1986 Viet Nam is my first choice! This place is an absolute must if you're in the area. The wait was short, and the food came out quicker than expected. The rice paper rolls were a perfect appetizer after the wait. The banh minh was crispy and the seafood pho had a surprising depth in flavor. The mung bean dessert was also refreshing and reminded me of 豆花 if you're into that. 10/10 would come again! Pretty long wait, but the Haiphong rice in crab roe broth was absolutely worth it 5/5. It was rich, flavorful, and really stood out. That said, as someone who’s half Vietnamese, the pho didn’t hit the mark for me (2/5). I tried the signature trio beef pho, and the broth wasn’t beefy enough. The servers were all very friendly, polite, and attentive. I would definitely come back for the crab roe broth. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: HK$100–150
