85°C Bakery Cafe (on Google Maps; it’s called 85°C Daily Cafe on the sign out front) My laptop and I visit a lot of cafes. As an author, I’m always looking for good places not only to eat and drink but to sit and write for hours. As a teacher, I believe in scoring according to various criteria. With that in mind, these are my opinions about this one. Food: **** I had the thick toast. I didn’t see it on the menu, but I saw them preparing it for another customer, and I asked for some. I’m not sure what flavor it was. It looked like it had cheese on top, but it tasted slightly sweet. Drinks: **** I tried the pudding smoothie, just because it sounded interesting. It was! See my picture. Prices: ***** Variety of Menu Options Available: *** There were plenty of drink options, but no foods written on the menu. (Unless there was a different menu they didn’t show me?) There were a variety of cakes and pastries on display on the shelves, but I didn’t see any breakfast options there, just desserts. I did see them putting a tray of croissants into the oven later, but they weren’t on the menu or the shelves. I wonder what other savory options they had that weren’t obvious (at least to someone who can’t read Chinese - but I didn’t see any other Chinese menus, either). Variety of Non-Coffee Drink Options: ***** English Menu? Yes, there were bilingual menus, one on display overhead and another on paper. As mentioned above, neither listed any food. Wi-Fi/Charging Ports Available? Neither. No outlets, either. Pleasant Environment/Comfortable to Write In: **** The room was small and a bit noisy. It’s more of a bakery than a cafe, so it’s not really intended for people to hang out in for a long time. However, if you don’t need Wi-fi and your computer has a long battery life, it’s doable. Customer Service: **** Hours: 7 a.m. - 10 p.m. daily Additional Comments: Although it says “85° to go”, there is both a take-out counter facing the street and an indoor area with seating. If using Line Pay as I was, be prepared to exit the bakery, pay at the counter through the window, and then go back in through the door to get back to your table.
