On a bustling Sunday morning, my family and I visited Akita Cafe at Metro Town, Tiu Keng Leng, a recently opened cha chaan teng near the MTR station. The restaurant, with around 40+ seats, was packed, with a large crowd at the entrance, mostly waiting for takeout orders. Despite the hectic atmosphere, we secured a table after just a five-minute wait. Arriving just past breakfast hours, we opted for the all-day special menu since the classic Hong Kong-style breakfast was no longer available. The food was decent but unremarkable, with the standout being the freshly baked bread rolls unique to Akita. We ordered the katsu curry pork chop rice—the pork was delightfully crispy, though the curry was mild, lacking spice and depth. The satay beef noodles were average, but the accompanying soft, house-made bread roll elevated the dish. The staff were a highlight, maintaining friendly smiles and attentive service despite the busy rush. Prices were reasonable for a mall setting, though not exceptional for the quality. In an area with limited cha chaan teng options, Akita Cafe is a solid choice, especially for its fresh bread. We’d return if in Tiu Keng Leng, but it’s not a destination on its own.
