We discovered Nikita’s beautiful Ryokan via Scott Brown’s YouTube channel and we are so glad that we finally could come and stay. The Ryokan is absolutely gorgeous, as is the location. All the attention to detail in the fit off is evidenced via the material choices and high quality details. All amenities are clean and comfortable and the bathtub is such a delight with an amazing aroma from the timber. We stayed 3 nights and next time we will stay at least 4 as it is truly an incredible area to stay in and slow down away from the busy cities. Nikita was an excellent host who was kind and accomodating with yummy breakfast each morning alongside coffee. She has lots of recommendations of things to see and do in the area and we were also lucky enough to see the fireflies just nearby at the trout farm! (Mid June) Cannot recommend it enough to come stay here experience this. We will be back! Thank you so much Nikita! Service: 5

This is our second stay at Akitsu Ryokan and the best accommodation we've stayed at in Japan. It is located in a quiet neighborhood where you can truly disconnect. After a couple of busy nights in the city this feels like a real sanctuary. The room is comfortable and thoughtfully designed. Underneath the guesthouse is a curated shop with local ceramics and gifts as well as delicious coffee. Nikita the guesthouse owner speaks english and Japanese and can help you with local recommendations. In the local area of Maibara, Hikone and Nagahama you can explore many incredible restaurants, cafes, temples, gardens and authentic and quiet places away from the busyness and overcrowded nature of the popular cities. If you're looking for a true getaway and genuine Japanese experience this guesthouse is a must! Service: 5
