If you are reading this review after November 2024, please note this is a review of the “new” Anong Restaurant that re-opened at this location in November 2024. Anong restaurant is well a established local Thai restaurant in Cheong Mon area that prioritizes food quality and authenticity of the Thai dishes they serve together with friendliness and hospitality of the staff. If you want delicious Thai food made from highest quality ingredients all served by a staff for whom your satisfaction is their highest priority, then Anong is the place to dine. Peter is in charge of the front of the house, speaks excellent English and is happy to take the time to get to know the customers and their food preferences while his wife Anong runs the kitchen, making sure everything that comes out is exactly how the customer wants it. They also offer a selection of western dishes as well if you are not in the mood for Thai food. My wife and I dined here three times during a recent visit to Koh Samui because we found the food and service were just that much better for the price than anywhere else we found on the island. If you are looking for affordable, well done Thai food served at a local, family-owned business that has been doing things this way for customers for decades, then Anong Restaurant should be your first choice. For some background, if you have read any older reviews about a restaurant at this location, please be advised that Planet Restaurant and Bar is NO LONGER doing business at this address. Any reviews prior to November 2024 but after COVID pandemic are in reference to the now closed Planet Restaurant and should be ignored. For many years Peter and his wife Anong ran the successful Anong restaurant at this location. They had to close during COVID, and after the pandemic they attempted to lease their restaurant space to a tenant (Planet) who has since moved out of this space. So in November 2024 Peter and Anong have now decided to reopen their Anong Restaurant after a 4 year absence from this location. The old / new Anong Restaurant is now back and as good as it ever was. As a newly (re-)opened restaurant the ambience is still a work-in-progress. The lighting is a bit bright. And the drinks menu is limited. Peter’s and Anong’s talent is in serving great food. They are not cocktail gurus. But who knows, maybe they will soon add a bar staff that will allow them to expand their drinks menu to more upscale offerings beyond beer, wine and basic cocktails.
