After a busy day exploring Seoul’s historic palaces and temples, Donkey and I decided to visit Atelier Song for a calm, elegant meal to wind down. The restaurant is tucked away in a nice neighbourhood and as soon as we arrived we were impressed by the artistic, intimate atmosphere – it felt like a peaceful escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. The interior is decorated with great care and attention to detail, giving it the feel of an artist’s studio. It creates a warm, inviting space perfect for relaxing over dessert. We ordered their unique cookies and cream bingsu, which was made with incredibly fine, silky shaved ice layered beautifully. It came with a rich scoop of chocolate ice cream and was topped with crunchy cookie and cream pieces. The presentation was elegant and the flavours were well balanced. However we both thought the price of 17000 won was quite high compared to similar desserts we had tried elsewhere. This is likely because the restaurant is in a popular tourist area, so it is something to consider if you are watching your spending. Sharing the dessert while looking out at the street was a lovely way to end our day of sightseeing. Even with the higher cost, the creative atmosphere and the special texture of the shaved ice made the experience memorable. If you are happy to pay a bit more for a quiet, artistic setting in the city center, Atelier Song is definitely a pleasant choice for a treat. Amazing quiet cafe in a traditional Hanok style building. A perfect get away from Insadong bustling street. Lovely ambience with trinkets and classic Korean furniture (inlaid with mother of pearls) that makes the place cosy for the customers. Price per person: ₩10,000–20,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
