This is like one of those glazing liberal reviews of a very foreign culture, but in this case it actually has substance, and it's exclamation point free (except for that one)! What I mean is I basically do the same rigamarole but with sincerity and/or grounding in reality. Bangladeshi food is significantly different from South Indian and even general North Indian. And in Little India Singapore, healthier, and usually better. Something must have changed about this place because I'm not sure how it's not 5 stars in reviews. The food is literally 5 stars (I mean sure there's better food out there but the quality vs price is elite tier if you play it right). Compare to all the fake review Tamil restos nearby. It's good to be simple... home cooked. You're getting real food from real Bangladeshi village cooks. Like, healthy country food that can sustain Bangladeshi laborers long term. Laborer food being junk food is a misnomer. Their active lifestyle can absorb the unhealthiness to a degree but it is not the sustainable core of working food. Apparently Bangladeshi restaurants around here tend to have an emphasis on fresher ingredients, less processing, and fish. It's inherently healthy and palatable. Speaking of palatable, they have this potato or papaya mash called bhorta, which is like the gateway drug to Banglar food. It's got this mustardy flavor and creaminess, not too heavily salted or spiced. It's one of the all time sleeper greats of Indo food. If your not impressed you're probably eating at a hybrid Bangla/Tamil place which went for the ol' salt and spice overload for reusability. About half the Bangla restos are good, the others fall by the wayside for whatever reason. I would say over half the dishes at this restaurant are actively good, which is a really high ratio for little India actually. They do a pretty good job on the physical area, but the customers are mostly loud, Islamic working class laborers (in fact, I have been listening to them basically yell for a while). The staff are generally similar (in fact I'm listening to one bang dishes right now, not sure how long the girl is going to last but she is a major exception, same with the Chinese guy who hops in every now and then)... But the place still gets 5 stars because the value proposition is undeniable. I just had a healthy feast for 8 USD, check my photos. Get here when it's fresh (10:30), get anything that looks like mashed potatoes, eat the fish, get the Naan, avoid the fridge stuff, they don't have drinks but they do have coconuts outside. And if you're health conscious like me, ask for some fresh onions, peppers and limes, which also add to the flavor. Solid for vegetarians too.
