One does not, in the ordinary course of affairs, expect to encounter the soul of Bengal upon the shores of Korea. And yet, tucked away in the city of Busan, behind a staircase of rather vigorous ambition, which I recommend one ascend with both resolve and sturdy footwear, there exists an establishment that offers precisely that: a genuine communion with the culinary traditions of Bangladesh. I confess I arrived with the cautious optimism of one who has been disappointed before by the pale imitations that so often masquerade as authentic cuisine in foreign lands. I need not have worried. The Tehari was fragrant and true rice and spice in that particular proportion known only to those who have cooked over the fires of the subcontinent. The beef platter carried within it the richness one associates with a proper Bengali kitchen, unhurried and unapologetic. The beef khichuri, perhaps most tellingly, possessed that quality which no recipe alone can produce: memory. It tasted, quite simply, of home. The establishment is clean and well-ordered. One ought, however, to enquire in advance regarding the availability of specific dishes, as certain items are subject to the natural vicissitudes of supply, a small inconvenience one gladly accepts in exchange for authenticity. The staircase, as I have noted, demands a certain physical willingness. But what summit worth reaching does not? Consider it a modest pilgrimage, and the reward, I assure you, is most handsomely proportioned to the effort. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3 Vegetarian options: They have vegetarian options.

I recently had dinner at Bengal Cuisine , and I can’t say enough good things about it! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The staff greeted us with smiles and seated us right away, even though the restaurant was fairly busy. Our server was fantastic—attentive without being overbearing and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: ₩10,000–20,000
