This review is several months after my time in Korea. Decided to write this based on other's interest in previous reviews and to hopefully provide more music venue options for others visiting from other countries. Been to Brown multiple times and what brought me here initially was a Korea guy friend I met who knew of the place. Dress code was same as most hip hop clubs in Hongdae. Entrance is on the street and like many clubs you go down stairs for the ID check, past the coat check section to where the basement and dance floor are located. First impression is they kept the lights extremely dim to the point of barely being able to see even Korean faces a few feet in front of me. Prices for drinks were same as the rest of Hongdae and as usual a free drink with the entrance fee. The music is what surprised me in a good way, expect to hear classic 80's and 90's hip hop and R&B: Biggie Smalls, Blackstreet, Tupac, Snoop Dog, Dr Dre, Ice Cube, etc. This goes for the entire night and was a refreshment from most hip hop clubs in Hongdae. Before 1am there are tables and chairs to use if you just want to chill and listen. Another plus (similar to clubs in Japan) is Brown was open every night regardless if there was one person or 80 people. Fridays and Saturdays were usually packed with mainly Koreans with slightly older (late 20s to 30s) crowd for area. If you are not Korean expect to be the only foreigner and also guy to girl ratio seemed to always be mainly guys. Finally, despite the music I gave three stars because though the music is of mainly black American male artists the people going there and listening to the music had very little desire to speak or dance with the same. So in a way I had my own Sammy Davis Jr. moment...it is okay to be heard but not seen in person! Korean guys will sometimes be the exception but mainly to practice English or pick up women.
