Butahage (Pasir Ris Mall): A Treat in Hokkaido Butadon! If you’re looking for a reliable spot for a business dinner that’s efficient yet high-quality, Butahage at the Pasir Ris Mall is a fantastic choice. We visited for a weekday dinner, and the experience was pleasant from start to finish. The star of the show is undoubtedly their Signature Obihiro Meibutsu Butadon. All three of us ordered it, and the consensus was unanimous: it is exceptionally good. The pork slices are thick-cut and charcoal-grilled to perfection, boasting a beautiful smoky char that balances the sweetness of their legendary 80-year-old secret tare sauce. We were impressed by the texture of the meat—tender with just the right amount of fat cap to keep it juicy without being overly greasy. The glaze is rich and umami-packed. It’s not just a "sweet soy" sauce; it has a depth that comes from decades of tradition. Call me a garnish obsessed foodie. I love that they stick to the tradition of topping the bowl with exactly five green peas. It adds a nice pop of color and a bit of a nostalgic touch to the presentation. The set also came with a very comforting bowl of miso soup and some light pickles, which helped cleanse the palate between those rich, savoury bites of pork. The outlet at Pasir Ris Mall has a bright, modern, and clean aesthetic that works well for a professional catch-up. Despite being in a busy mall, the service was prompt and attentive, making it easy to focus on our conversation rather than waiting for our food. Overall, Butahage delivers a focused menu where they’ve clearly mastered their signature dish.
