Visited Butao (Central) 豚王 (中環) for lunch and it absolutely lived up to its reputation for rich, flavorful ramen. We ordered the Red King, Butao, and the Limited King – Sweet & Spicy, plus an extra marinated Japanese egg. What I really like about Butao is the level of customization—you can adjust the soup base, garlic, infused oil, chili level, noodle type, and toppings exactly how you want. The Red King was my favorite. The tonkotsu broth was deep and creamy with a nice kick from the chili sauce (3 chilis was just right). The thin noodles held the broth well and the pork belly topping was tender and flavorful. The Butao is the classic version and a great benchmark for tonkotsu ramen. The broth is rich without being overwhelming, and the shoulder butt chashu had a nice balance of fat and texture. The Limited King – Sweet & Spicy added a slightly different profile with a bit of sweetness layered on top of the spicy tonkotsu base, which made the bowl feel more complex. Also highly recommend adding the marinated egg—perfectly soft with a flavorful soy marinade. Service was quick and efficient even during lunch time, and the ordering system makes customization easy. Overall: Excellent tonkotsu ramen with deep broth, quality pork, and great customization options. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in Central and craving ramen.
