If you wish to eat simple but good food (like your mum did) in a quiet environment, come here. In front of the old railway station Hua Lam Phong, café 1860 is a quiet area. Air conditionning and friendly staff, far from the overcrowded restaurants from China town. The hotel is also very well considering the price you pay. A jewel for low budget people.
