Established in 1981, Carrianna ChiuChow Cuisine Restaurant has spent 45 years anchoring the east Guangdong culinary tradition in the heart of Wan Chai. Tucked away on Gloucester Road, it sits roughly a 10-minute walk from both the Wan Chai and Exhibition Centre MTR stations. Having opted for the Exhibition Centre route on my recent visit, I would actually recommend arriving by car if possible, as the building's layout presents some distinct logistical hurdles. Because the restaurant isn't on the ground floor, it's unfortunately quite unfriendly to anyone with limited mobility. If you're dining with elderly family members who rely on rollators or wheelchairs, be prepared to navigate stairs and an escalator. A ground-floor elevator exists, but it doesn't offer seamless access to the restaurant's actual entrance. If accessibility isn’t a dealbreaker, however, Carrianna truly shines as a venue for significant family milestones. I dined here twice within a five-month span in 2026, booking a private dining room well in advance for two major events: a Chinese New Year reunion that doubled as a farewell for migrating cousins, and a recent celebration for a senior relative turning 90. As someone whose ancestral roots trace back to Chiuchow, though my parents and I have never visited the region firsthand, I cannot speak to how strictly these flavours mirror the hometown original. What I can confidently vouch for is the sheer quality of the execution. Every dish arrived piping hot and the stir-fried selections boasted a masterful, authentic wok hei (the signature breath of a hot wok). A quick ethical note for conscious diners: their banquet menus do still feature shark fin soup, which is something to bear in mind if you prefer to steer clear of establishments supporting that trade. Because both banquets were hosted and paid for by my parents and senior relatives, I cannot give an exact per-person breakdown. That said, Carrianna is explicitly not a casual or budget-friendly establishment. The ambiance, heritage and pricing structure lean heavily toward premium, upper-class banquet dining.
