Kanazawa Dinner: A Must-Visit Masterpiece. After some meticulous research on TripAdvisor and Google Maps, we found the top-rated spot in the city: Yakiniku Daishogun (Kanazawa Branch). • Location: Daishogun Kanazawaten 大将軍 金沢店 • Getting there: A 20-minute taxi ride from Hotel Nikko Kanazawa. It did not disappoint. We officially rank this as one of the best yakiniku experiences in all of Japan. The meat quality is on another level. The Meat Highlights • Chateaubriand (¥5,980): Absolutely essential. It was incredibly delicious and surprisingly affordable. To put it in perspective, we’ve seen the same cut for ¥20,000 in Takayama and ¥12,000 in Shinjuku. • The "Surprise" Top Shoulder (¥2,880): This was the highlight of the night. When it first arrived, we actually tried to send it back! We had ordered the Chuck Roll, but this looked exactly like Misuji (Top Blade/Top Shoulder). The server looked shocked. After reviewing the menu and double-checking our order, we realized our mistake and had them bring it back. We are so glad we did! • The Experience: Thinly sliced, grilled to perfection, and dipped in Ponzu sauce. It was so unique and delicious that we had to order a second round immediately. Don’t Skip the Carbs • Garlic Fried Rice: In this city, they fry it until it's perfectly dry and crispy on the outside. • Gohan (Steamed Rice): Even the plain white rice was so good we ate it all by itself. Final Thoughts. Our group reached a unanimous conclusion: Even if you take a 2.5-hour Shinkansen from Tokyo just to eat at this restaurant, it is worth it. The quality is far superior to what you’d find in Tokyo for the same price, and both the food and the hotels here are much more affordable. This is a spot you definitely need to bookmark.
