An update
Friends of Niven Leong H L ( the owner and Chef of this newly opened Chicken Rice eatery ) refer to him fondly as “Uncle Chicken” for a very good reason.
Niven, who has returned from ‘ temporary retirement’ to running a chicken rice business full time , personally prepares his own special ‘home style” version for the pleasure of his friends and customers where you can be sure the plum mid-size chicken he selects from his trusted long time supplier will have the juiciest and most tender meat to complement his self- prepared thick and tangy chilly sauce and aromatic ginger paste to accompanying a premium brand of fragrant rice, boiled with a mixture of raw garlic and chicken stock to give it a rich flavour and taste. That’s what make his “Uncle Chicken” brand , unique from others.
For long time regulars , like myself , who yearn for his chicken rice, here’s the good news: This 'die die must eat' premium chicken rice is now available at Niven’s newly open stall at DMQ Eating House, Blk 304, Ubi Avenue 1.
Niven has deliberately kept his prices ‘ competitive’ to encourage residents in the Eunos/ Ubi commercial neighbourhood as well as its horde of office workers, to sample the superior taste and quality of what he promised will be a premium brand of chicken rice.
He had previously operated a chicken rice stall at Alexander Village followed by Simpang Bedok ‘Market Place’ under the name: “Uncle Chicken”. But due to high rentals and poor location, he had to close them down and went into temporary retirement.
Now that he is back on his feet, I suggest you take advantage of this excellent value for money offer of his time- tested feat over this internationally known Singaporean dish which has earned him the ‘honour’ of being nick name “ Uncle Chicken “ by friends and regular customers who have known him and his family members since the golden days of Sin Kee Chicken Rice at Margaret Drive, the one which my children insist on going to whenever they yearn to eat chicken rice whilst driving them home from school.
Bon Appetit.
PS: For those who prefer home delivery, this service will be available soon via Food Panda and GrabFood. The respective arrangements are now being processed.
