Fernweh Cafe is airy and spacious that it feels like a little quiet escape from the buzz outside. The menu leans towards brunch-style fare, mains and sharing plates with a local twist. We tried the Rendang Beef Benedict, which came with tater tots and a side salad. The dish was flavourful and satisfying - the rendang beef was tender, aromatic and carried a gentle warmth that paired well with the buttery, toasted sourdough. The slight letdown was the poached eggs, which didn’t quite have the ooze we were hoping for. The Har Cheong Gai Don was filling, and I liked the addition of vegetables and edamame for some freshness. The chicken was crispy and tender though the signature savoury shrimp paste flavour was milder than expected. Similarly, the soft egg wasn’t as runny. The set comes with a drink and the Iced Lemonade was visually stunning, refreshing, and nicely balanced between sour, sweet and fizzy. It awakened my senses and perfect for a hot day. Shiok! Coffee here is very reasonably priced at $4 for an Americano and $4.50 for a Flat White. The brew leaned towards medium-bodied with darker undertones and not too acidic. Personally, I enjoyed it.
