Solid pastries and an easygoing neighborhood feel. I originally ducked in here just to kill time while waiting in line at a restaurant nearby, but the pastry case looked pretty tempting. The selection wasn’t massive, but most of the items were more creative than what you typically see at Korean bakeries. Their signatures included fig vegan bread, salted cod roe baguette (명란바게트), and sweet pumpkin–chestnut–sweet potato cream cheese breads. I grabbed a Korean black raspberry Ade, the Fig Vegan Bread, and the Salted Cod Roe Baguette. The Fig Vegan Bread stumbled a bit. It’s loaded with a generous mouthful of fig paste, but since fig is naturally subtle, it desperately needs a stronger base. The vegan bread base was just a bit too dull to carry it. The Cod Roe Baguette (명란바게트) was perfect. This has been a massive trend in Korea for a while, but usually, the roe is just baked directly into the dough. You get an occasional, intense hit of umami, but the flavor distribution is wildly uneven. Here, they solve that flaw by whipping the cod roe into cream cheese and spreading it evenly. The resulting collision of sweet, creamy, and savory notes against the crunchy baguette is an absolute flavor explosion. A massive structural upgrade. Coffees are on the milder side which I like. The breads and cookies are unique and are amazing.
