It’s the second time we went to Gyukaku Japanese Yakiniku Restaurant at Lee Tung Avenue for lunch. We managed to book through open rice. We booked for 12:00 pm slot but we arrived earlier at 11:30 am. The counter staff had no problem allowing us to enter earlier. What we found was that the restaurant has changed its menu and increased the price. The price increase is not for the same item before. They changed the mix of the beef to include slightly higher quality and increased the price accordingly. All of us went for A2 for 100 minutes (5 AUS Wagyu Akami, 5 Beef Short Plate and 4 Pork Slice), which was HKD 158 per person. If you want you can add extra beef at additional cost. It’s a semi buffet. But you don’t actually need to add on as the other food items offered on semi buffet are more than enough. We were seated on the sofa seat, which was comfortable. There were five of us but only had two table top grills. We had issues with the table top grill as it wasn’t working. So the staff had to come over to make it work. Despite including the higher quality beef in the mix of beef it was rather thin and not thick and chewy. Therefore, I couldn’t feel any difference in taste between the AUS Wagyu Akami and the Beef Short Plate. Which was quite disappointing. If you go to a Korean restaurant you can actually taste and feel the difference between the different beef types but not here. Nevertheless, the other food, drinks and desert on offer covered the deficiency in beef. I actually prefer the previous menu. Overall a 3 rating. This is because increase in price by offering different mix of beef didn’t come with increased taste and quality of beef. However, the extensive offering in the semi buffet covered the deficiency of the beef provided. Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3 Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $150–200

Only in HK would you enter a restaurant and be greeted with the host glaring at you with pure hatred and disdain in her eyes. We have never met in our lives, but she glared venomously as if we were bitter enemies. When we approached her for a table she simply shook her head in silence with a frown and angrily stared down my soul.
