I had no business being in Bishan but I stumbled onto HAUS166 and I’m glad I did! On my first visit I had the Rosie (bandung latte) and it was perfectly balanced. Had the pour over too. Seasonal Beans at the time were from Yunnan so it was sweet and almost tea-like (which is distinct in beans from that area I hear). really enjoyed these drinks. Came back again to try the dirty coco with limited edition chendol jelly. I love that it tasted like the dessert, but it was not sweet?! Magic. Guilt free chendol for you. Its CCO is also really cute. Would come back just to peek at him through the window. To pet him and love on him. And no that’s not weird to say because their cco is a very handsome cat. Staff are also very friendly. Again, I don’t live or have any business in Bishan but I felt like I’ve been living in the area for ages purely due to the authentic conversations and hehe haha with the people behind HAUS166. Stumbled on the cutest weekend coffee hideout at Bishan and I cannot gatekeep this! Haus166 is a home café tucked right beside Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Primary School, about a 10-minute walk from Bishan MRT, and they’re open only on weekends from 10am to 2pm. Small, cosy, very homey vibes with their resident feline boss Zeus. It is a full-on passion project with serious brews and house bakes. They use fresh milk and also have coconut, oat and soy milk options, and I especially appreciated that there was no additional charge for iced drinks or alternative milk options! Iced Matcha Yuzu with Fresh Milk ($7.50) This one is super refreshing. They use Uji ceremonial grade matcha, so the matcha is mellow, slightly sweet, with earthy umami notes and a smooth, creamy texture from being properly whisked. The yuzu jam adds this bright citrusy tang that lifts the whole drink. Sweet, citrusy, earthy all at once, and the yuzu makes it taste extra vibrant. Perfect for our weather. Hot Hojicha Peanut Butter with Oat Milk ($7.50) Okay this was unexpectedly shiok. The hojicha has that deep roasted, smoky aroma and pairs so well with the nutty peanut butter. The chunky peanut butter gives little bits of crunch, so you get this creamy yet textured mouthfeel. Earthy, toasty, nutty, very comforting. Feels like a hug in a cup but still interesting. They also have fun signature drinks like El Meowcho (sweet salty creamy espresso), Dealer’s Choice (espresso with whisky highball), Honey Bee with osmanthus honey, Rosie bandung latte, and even a Shiok Spritz with sparkling water, citrus and espresso. Seasonal highlight: they just launched Grandma’s special pineapple tarts for CNY. You can try limited samples when you visit, and if you preorder $50 and above, you’ll get a pack of Zuzu-designed red packets. Super cute! Good coffee, creative drinks, house bakes and cat energy running the place. Weekend mornings suddenly have a new favourite spot. I want to come back and try their coffees next time!
