We had mixed feelings about HAAWM. The food itself was good and every dish was well prepared, but nothing felt particularly memorable or unique compared with other great Thai restaurants we’ve been to. The main issue for us was the value. At around 7,400 THB for two people, we expected a much more distinctive experience. We’ve been to many restaurants in a similar price range, both in Thailand and elsewhere, and have rarely walked away feeling such a gap between the price and the overall experience. The communal table concept is nice and feels a little like being invited into someone’s home, but we felt it could have been taken much further. There wasn’t much interaction or storytelling around the experience, and the interior felt quite ordinary and somewhat inconsistent rather than intentionally designed. One other thing worth mentioning: if you generally prefer lighter or more health-conscious food, this might not be the best fit. The menu leaned quite rich and heavy, with a lot of spicy, fried, and strongly flavored dishes. Overall, it felt closer to a well-done Airbnb-style dining experience where travelers meet over good Thai food than to fine dining. Nothing was actually bad, the food was good and we had a pleasant evening. It simply didn’t feel special enough to justify the price for us. For comparison, if you’re looking for something more unusual and creative in Bangkok, we personally find Small Dinner Club much more memorable.
