Dong Zhu You Xi – a hidden gem in Hung Hom that once required a two-year wait, now slightly more accessible but still best enjoyed with a crowd. No Michelin star, but this private-kitchen-style spot delivered one of my most satisfying Cantonese feasts in recent memory. Our 17-person banquet featured showstoppers like chilled South African abalone, a luxurious “jazz soup” with honey melon and conch, and an insane crab-lover’s dream – five types of crabs (mud, blue, female, yellow oil, and young), 35 legs hand-picked, served on toasted bread with egg-white “crab roe”. Other highlights: mustard-glazed fish maw, steamed threadfin with salted plum, and crispy rice noodles with clams and pickled veg. Finished with aged tangerine red bean soup and homemade sesame dumplings. Gorgeous plating, bold flavours, and pure joy shared around a big table. Highly recommended – especially for group gatherings.
