We are a family of three from Germany and spent an afternoon with Taro and his wife Yoshiko in August — it turned out to be one of the highlights of our three-week Japan trip. Taro speaks excellent English, and while we cooked a proper Japanese home-style meal together (including wonderful wagyu), the class is much more than recipes: Taro shares warm, funny and thoughtful insights into everyday Japanese life, family culture and society — things you simply don't learn as a tourist. He and Yoshiko are wonderful hosts, the atmosphere in their home is personal and relaxed, and the meal we cooked together tasted fantastic. The meeting point at Shin-Aoibashi bus stop was easy to find with his directions. If you want to understand Japan beyond temples and restaurants: book this class. Thank you, Taro and Yoshiko!

A must-do while in Kyoto! You'll experience so much more than a cooking class. For a truly authentic cultural and culinary experience, take a few hours out of your trip to slow down for true connection and conversation, and an exceptional meal. Taro, you are a wonderful ambassador for Japanese food and culture. We feel lucky to have had this experience with you. Thank you Taro and Yoshiko, for opening up your home to us, this was the highlight of our trip.

This was an amazing and enlightening cooking class. The class is focused on the fundamentals of Japanese cooking. It’s very simple in concept but can be complex in how flavour profiles are developed. This was a fun and inspiring class. Can't wait to use the techniques and recipes learned in class. Wish me luck. Thank you Taro and Yoshiko, for welcoming us into your home. The open and frank conversation regarding Japanese life and culture was appreciated and eye opening.
