Helmsdale Miyashita Park Tokyo has no shortage of great bars, but every once in a while you find one that offers something genuinely different. Helmsdale Miyashita Park is one of those places. Tucked away above the energy of Shibuya, it can be surprisingly difficult to find — but that only seems to add to its charm. Once inside, you're rewarded with an intimate, sophisticated atmosphere and some truly remarkable views of Tokyo. From high above, you can watch the city moving below while somehow feeling comfortably removed from all of it. If you can, get a seat next to the window facing the distinctive spire of the NTT Docomo Yoyogi Building. It's a fantastic view, especially as Tokyo lights up around you. There's something about the setting that makes you want to settle in and stay awhile. Good music, great conversation, old friends around the table, and Tokyo glowing outside the windows — it has the kind of atmosphere that can make an ordinary evening feel like a scene out of a movie. The bar itself is warm and refined without feeling pretentious. Behind the bar is an extensive selection of fine liquors, beers, and wines, along with expertly made cocktails — plenty to explore whether you know exactly what you want or feel like trying something different. The food offers some excellent Irish and UK-inspired favorites as well. I had the fish and chips along with several appetizers, and everything complemented the evening perfectly. Even the restrooms deserve a mention — exceptionally clean, modern, and beautifully maintained. It's a small detail, perhaps, but another indication of the care that's been put into the entire establishment. A special mention has to go to the owner, Mr. Murasawa-san, who is very much a part of what makes Helmsdale what it is. He's hands-on, warm, friendly, and genuinely funny. He stopped by our table for conversation and photos and immediately felt like part of the evening rather than simply the owner of the establishment. That personal touch says a lot about the character of this place. There are plenty of places in Shibuya where you can surround yourself with crowds and excitement. Helmsdale offers something harder to find — a place above it all where you can enjoy an exceptional view of Tokyo, a well-made drink, good food, and the company of the people you're there with. Some places you visit for a drink. Others become part of the evening you remember. Helmsdale is definitely the latter.. Price per person: ¥2,000–3,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I was surprised to find such a great bar for delicious highballs so close by! The atmosphere was lovely, the staff were friendly, and both the drinks and the chocolat brownie were absolutely delicious. I was told the chocolate brownie is homemade, and it was served warm, which made it even better! The toilets were clean as well. I'll definitely be back for another highball! Price per person: ¥4,000–5,000
