We never planned to go here, but are so glad we stumbled in! There was a bit of a wait but that was OK of course, because it was popular that night. The chef was on his own, as the other team member was running late — yet he kept up great communication with every diner, taking their orders or letting us know when he’d take our orders, or the timing of our dishes coming out. I’ve worked in restaurants for ten years, but this establishment with just one man was the most considerate and attentive service I’ve witnessed. At the same time it was in a lovely intimate setting, hearing the other people laughing and having a good time put us in a great mood too. The food was astounding. Best braised pork I’ve had in my life. The calamari was a close second. Everything was perfect, and I will remember this dinner the most out of our two weeks in Japan. I would literally go back to Japan just to visit this place again. High Spirits deserves a Michelin Star!
