Meeting You Too Late 相逢恨晚 Pastel pinks and butter-yellows, soft-gold light—dining inside a Wes Anderson watercolour. Cozy, dreamy, every corner a story. Then the crabs took centre stage. Chilled cucumber salad with Japanese crab meat—clean, bright, a whisper of the sea. Sri Lankan typhoon shelter crab balls—golden suns, crisp and crackling with the nostalgic excitement of Hong Kong spices. Hoppers with crab roe sauce—crispy egg white cradling a silky yolk, comfort raised to art by that velvety umami glaze. MVP OF THE DAY Black Pepper Mud Crab, Local Clams, Crispy Potato and Baby Cabbage Wrapped in a Banana Leaf—earthy, grounded, like a Pakistani curry without onion. Nothing quite like it had ever touched my lips. Unwrapping it felt like a love letter from Sri Lanka itself. The crispy potatoes echoed a beloved Hong Kong classic—diced potato and beef fried to golden perfection—while the spring onion paratha carried a whisper of。Shanghai winds, all coming together to dip into the myriad Asian sauces of these blessed territories. ️ Steamed Alaskan king crab in brown butter and Shao Xing, curry leaves and leek hearts—pure umami. We saw it alive in the tank moments before. That is how we Hong Kongers do it—freshness singing its final, glorious aria. Chilled crab soup—refreshing, rich, a lovely pause between acts. Golden mantou with treacle condensed milk—crisp outside, soft within, never greasy. The sauce whispered of kaya—warm, sweet, steeped in nostalgia. I left feeling as though Sri Lanka had never been closer.

We visited on a weekday evening and there was no queue, which was great. The service was excellent, staff were attentive and friendly throughout our visit. The chili chicken and garlic paratha were definitely the highlights, both were really delicious and full of flavor. The crab kothu and beef kari were just okay in comparison. It might have been our choice of proteins, as we wanted to try something different, but those dishes didn’t stand out as much. Overall, it was still a decent experience, though we’ve had better Sri Lankan food elsewhere Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

Fantastic Sri Lankan I have been going regularly go to Hotal Colombo for years with my wife who is from the South of India. This is also the restaurant we went to celebrate with our friends when we got married. Chef Gizzy always welcome us warmly and you can tell the dedication she puts in her cooking. She usually gets Dosa and I get chicken or crab Khotu and these have been our go-to ever since. We were recently pleasantly surprised that they tried incorporating a curry leaf panna cotta. It was a refreshing and delicious dessert taking inspiration from basil panna cotta with a South Asian twist. I hope it gets a rerun or a permanent spot on the menu. Everyone who had it loved it. Price to quality is unmatched, the staff is very friendly and efficient. The interior is simple with a very clean aesthetic. We even went there recently with our 6 month old and the experience has been nothing short of amazing. I highly recommend making a stop there if you come to Hong Kong.
