Visited for breakfast on a Sunday with my brother, around 8:45 a.m. We walked in without any reservations. The main purpose of our visit was to try the Sunday Roast, and had previously reached out via Instagram and got confirmation that it was available from 8:30 a.m. onwards, but upon reaching, we were informed that it would only be available in the afternoon because they had sold out the day before. Therefore, if you plan to visit on a Sunday to try their Sunday Roast, it's best to go down in the afternoon or perhaps reach out to them via Instagram to confirm the time it would be available. We were a little bit bummed out by the fact that the Sunday Roast was not available, but service from (I think) one of the owners was good and she came up to us to recommend alternative dishes to try. The dishes that we ended up ordering were the (i) Dashi Onsen Eggs with XO Kaya Yorkshire Pudding and (ii) Diavola Yorkpud Pizza. I had also ordered their Piccolo latte, and the coffee tasted fantastic. I enjoyed both dishes. For the Diavola Yorkpud Pizza, it isn't a traditional pizza in any sense of the word and essentially is just 4 pieces of Yorkshire Pudding covered in cheese, sliced cherry tomato and proscuitto, along with hae bee (dried chili) chili oil that made the taste unique and standout. The size of the pizza is also big and it's definitely best to share it with someone, especially since the taste profile of the dish is on the heavier/more decadent side. While the yorkshire puddings tasted good, my only issue with them is that in both dishes, they were not served hot and were room temperature, even in the pizza that was served in a cast iron pan. Temperature aside, the yorkshire puddings had great texture and taste. As for the seating area, the shop has 2 - one at the front and another one at the back. We were seated at the back because only seats with really small tables were available at the front. While the seats at the back were sufficient, as it appears that it is located next to the kitchen, you will be able to smell grease/cooking if seated at the back. I was fine with it, but for someone who has a sensitive sense of smell/worried that the smell will stick to your clothes, it's better to opt for seats at the front if possible. Living in Joo Chiat means no lack of good cafes offering specialty coffee, but I'd have to say that Humble Origins Coffee Roasters is my favourite. Who knew that coffee from Myanmar could taste so good? Its food offerings are also atypical of a most cafes in Singapore. For one, there is the Shan Origin Tofu Fries, made with fried chickpea tofu, topped with shaved parmesan and accompanied by a flavourful tamarind chilli dip. For breakfast, I'd recommend the Dashi Onsen Eggs with XO Kaya and Yorkshire Pudding - Humble's take on kaya toast. Great coffee and food aside, customers are also treated as friends here with the warm and welcoming atmosphere. Do visit them if you happen to be in Joo Chiat! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
