My husband booked this restaurant for my 50th birthday and it was extraordinary. Honestly one of the best meals I have ever had. James went out of his way to welcome us, explain each dish and the philosophy / story behind it. My gluten intolerance was well catered for and the kitchen prepared fries for the teenagers without special request which kept them happy. I loved the opportunity to try new foods and combinations for the first time and enjoyed every dish. The restaurant is incredible value for the quality of the food, the care the team take to create a memorable experience, and the passion they bring to their philosophy. Thank you to James and the team for helping to make my half century celebration so wonderful. We will definitely return! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We came next door to buy a knife and ended up staying for dinner. Best accident of our trip to Thailand. Great food, small and cosy place, and James is lovely to talk to. If you're in Chiang Mai, go. And if you like knives, budget the whole evening. Thanks for everything!

What a wonderful afternoon at Ikigai Restaurant! Four of us visited recently and were genuinely impressed from start to finish. The food was exceptional — beautifully presented, seasonal, and clearly crafted with so much care. Every dish felt like a little work of art, decorated just enough to look stunning without being overdone, and somehow tasting even better than it looked. You can really appreciate the freshness and home-grown ingredients in every bite. The service was equally lovely. The wait staff were attentive, warm, and genuinely pleasant throughout the meal. Although the restaurant was fairly quiet, it actually made the experience even more special because James took the time to explain each dish to us in detail, which added such a personal touch. Our vegetarian friend was also thoughtfully presented with equivalent non-meat options that were every bit as creative and delicious. The atmosphere was cozy, calm, and charming — the kind of place where you instantly relax and want to linger over good conversation and beautiful food. It was truly a delightful experience, and I honestly wonder why I waited so long to finally dine here. We will absolutely be back. Meal type: Lunch Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
