Basque cheesecake in Jeju! Just a 10 minute walk along the coast from Samyang Black Sand Beach, I found Chef Joseph and his basque cheesecakes, sweet breads, and cookies. Not only is Chef Joseph incredibly kind and interesting, but he walked me through the seven basque cheesecake flavors and his inspiration for each. I decided on the original “lolo”, which he recommended to pair with tea or a light white/red fruity wine. Unlike NY style cheesecakes, basque cheesecakes are crustless, beautifully caramelized, and lighter. Chef Joseph was previously an instructor at the French Culinary Institute (FCI) and worked in NYC for over 20 years. He opened the place 8 months ago, and I hope his cheesecakes, passion and experience continues to be shared with all those in Jeju!

A charming, cozy, and very special dessert shop! The basque cheesecake flavor offerings are unlike any I've ever experienced - their classic milk flavor "lolo", sweet/nutty honey chestnut, fruity & fresh pineapple, unique saffron & rose. We tried the lolo which was light and rich at the same time and the saffron which was fragrant and delicate. I could eat the whole thing in one sitting. So perfect with the tea they offer (I also took leftovers home to have them with coffee which was the perfect pairing too). There are also luxurious new flavors like the white chocolate olive oil, and passionfruit tahini which were so beautiful. We also were able to try some amazing cookies and bread. Chef Joseph was trained in New York and spent much of his career there as a pastry chef (also in LA, Tokyo, and Seoul) which explains these really unique, innovative, and thoughtful flavors! He is also very kind and bright. A must try for anyone in/visiting Jeju Island.
