“Newtro” (new + retro) is trending across a wide range of industries in South Korea from design, entertainment (K-Pop, dramas and films) and even the cafe industry. DS Sangsa’s baker character is central to this cafe’s concept, putting a modern twist on a 1970s Korean aesthetic. Other examples showing this trend include in Seoul include Camel Coffee, Fritz Coffee Company and LOHNT Coffee Roasters. DG Sangsa, as the trio of MAZZER Luigi suggests, has three main blends for their coffee, named Director (부장님), Manager (대리님) and Intern (인턴). This is a hint perhaps to the employee badges of the traditional Korean companies that are portrayed in several popular K-Dramas.
