Exemplary food, ambience and service. For a small eatery, Kimi packs in so much skill, attention to detail and culinary finesse into each of its dishes. Kimi SW3 offers an intelligently designed menu that features menu items cooked on a hibachi grill — all cooked by ex tempura chefs who really understand texture and how to contrast it. Some of the absolute stand out dishes were the prawns served with crispy head and its butter, the sublime kale salad — a masterclass in textural and umami play, the grilled shiitake mushrooms with garlic butter, the chicken yakitori and the stuffed chicken wings. The meal was paired with some class sake junmai daiginjo, and a local take on a highball. The whole vibe is effortless, unhurried yet totally cool. Counter seating puts you in the heart of their small kitchen, and proprietor James and his staff make you feel like a childhood friend who’s come to hang out, experience great food and enjoy a good cocktail or two (or three).
