Katiga Japanese Food Shop is the kind of place that does not advertise itself loudly, which is part of what makes finding it feel like an actual discovery. It sits within its own dedicated Japanese styled street, and the surrounding environment does a convincing job of transporting you somewhere else entirely. Walking up to it, the setting has the feel of a backstreet in Japan more than anything you would typically find in Hong Kong, and that atmosphere carries through into the restaurant itself. The interior is traditional in its design, unhurried in its pace, and spacious enough that it never feels cramped or rushed. The sushi and sashimi are the things to order here. The fish is fresh and the quality of the ingredients is high, which is the baseline requirement for Japanese food at this level and Katiga meets it consistently. The unagi don is another strong option, and the bento sets offer good variety if you want to cover more ground in a single order. Portions are generous and the overall pricing is reasonable given the ingredient quality and the setting. Service is friendly throughout, though the staff are primarily Cantonese and Japanese speaking, so English communication can be limited. It does not affect the experience in any meaningful way as the menu is navigable and the staff are genuinely helpful even across the language gap. The pace of service is relaxed rather than brisk, which suits the atmosphere but is worth knowing if you are on a tight schedule. Katiga has been around for a long time and the longevity says something real about how it is regarded locally.
