Was at the coffee shop next door around 1pm+ and got stopped in my tracks by the amazing bakery smell wafting over. Told myself to come take a look after my late lunch, so I went over around 2pm. Being the kiasu Singaporean that I am, I saw a queue and just had to join. Funniest part? NOTHING had labels! So I just did the classic "monkey see, monkey do" – whatever the uncles and aunties in front of me pointed at, I just took the same. I was drawn to the Kaya cake (2.20 each) too. This is definitely a very old-school bakery. If you're looking for that nostalgic taste, you'll find it here. The Kaya cake is genuinely good – soft and fragrant. The curry bun was not bad, but honestly, I wasn't really wow-ed by it la. Overall, worth a visit if you miss those days of traditional neighbourhood bakeries. Can give it a try! Went to buy a small piece of swiss roll $2.10 on 4/3/26, tried and was soft. Tried the other 3 types total of $9.00 on 21/4/26 and liked the coffee cake. Called them wanted to buy few boxes of 10 pieces butter cream cakes for my daughter's wedding but was told they never take wedding ordering and I asked if I want normal few boxes and was told no reserved and said don't know what/which types of cakes are avaliable and how many pieces they will have on everyday. Seem like everything also don't know. Rude & Poor Service. I WENT AGAIN ON 16/5/26SAT AND SAW THIS WEDDING CAKE BOX INSIDE THE FRIDGE. Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

I’ve been coming to Katong Sin Chew since I was a child, and to this day, stepping into this little bakery brings a rush of nostalgia like no other. There's something truly comforting about seeing the familiar trays of freshly baked goods and the simple, no-frills setup that has stood the test of time. Every visit feels like stepping back into a simpler time, one where the genuine flavors and aromas of traditional baking were what really mattered. For me, the custard puffs, kaya cakes, pandan cake, and especially the rum chocolate balls are absolute treasures. Each has that classic, "old-school" flavor that’s hard to come by these days. The custard in the puffs is silky and light, while the kaya cake has that perfect balance of sweetness and aroma that only comes from knowing exactly how long to cook the kaya. The pandan cake, with its gentle hint of pandan and fluffy texture, is moist yet so delicate. The rum chocolate balls? They have this delightful richness that brings me back to special occasions growing up, always a little treat that tasted like nothing else. All their bakes seem to carry a distinct character, as if flavored by the love and care they’ve been made with over the years. There’s a kind of depth in the taste that feels almost like it’s coming from the oven itself, bearing years of accumulated flavor that no modern bakery can replicate. The sponge cakes are simple yet perfectly done – moist, with just the right level of sweetness and a texture that’s so satisfyingly light. One thing to note is that they only accept cash, which somehow feels fitting and adds to that old-world charm. It’s also best to go early if you have favorites because, honestly, the cakes and buns fly off the shelves the moment they’re fresh from the oven. It’s like the whole neighborhood knows just how special these bakes are, and everyone’s eager to get their share. A small part of me worries whenever I visit, though – that one day I might walk by and find it gone. In a city that’s always evolving, places like Katong Sin Chew are treasures that remind us of where we came from. I sincerely hope it remains a part of the community for many more years, continuing to bring a slice of nostalgia to all of us who grew up with these beloved flavors.
