If you're looking for a hidden café in Bangkok that's worth seeking out, @aslieawake is a must-visit. Tucked away inside a Caltex petrol station along Phetkasem Road, just a short walk from BTS Bang Wa, this minimalist café has quickly become a favourite among coffee lovers. Despite its unconventional location, Lie Awake charms visitors with its clean white-and-wood interiors, cosy Japanese-inspired aesthetic, and adorable black cat mascot featured throughout the café's branding, cups, and packaging. Alongside excellent coffee and creative beverages, it's especially known for its freshly baked shio pan, making it a perfect stop for a relaxing coffee break or café-hopping adventure. One of the highlights is the Shio Pan Cranberry Cream Cheese. The buttery Japanese salt bread is baked until beautifully golden and crisp on the outside while remaining soft and fluffy within. Filled generously with smooth cream cheese and sweet, juicy cranberries, each bite strikes a delicious balance of creamy richness, fruity sweetness, and a gentle hint of sea salt that enhances all the flavours without overpowering them. To accompany the pastry, I ordered the café's Signature Thai Tea. Rich and fragrant with the distinctive aroma of Thai tea leaves, it was wonderfully creamy yet noticeably less sweet than the versions commonly found around Bangkok. The lighter sweetness allowed the tea's robust flavours to shine through, making it exceptionally refreshing and the perfect pairing for the savoury, buttery shio pan.
