A long-established Thai royal cuisine restaurant that I’ve been eating at for as long as I can remember. It’s one of my mother’s favorites, especially the khao chae, which is prepared with great care and attention to detail. The menu features a wide variety of traditional Thai dishes. Today, we tried the roti with green curry and fish balls. The curry is rich and slightly sweet, with a balanced level of spice. The fish balls have a smooth, bouncy texture that pairs very well with the roti. The tamarind chili paste with crispy gourami is more sweet and salty, with almost no heat. It goes perfectly with hot jasmine rice and the crispy fried fish, which is so well-fried you can even eat the bones. The hot plate stuffed squid with shrimp is served with pickled vegetables. The flavor is rich, with strong notes of garlic and pepper, while the pickles help cut through the richness nicely. The crispy chicken stir-fried with chili is surprisingly good. The shredded chicken is deep-fried until crispy, then stir-fried with holy basil, chili, and garlic. It delivers a well-balanced sweet, spicy, and salty flavor, and the crispy texture makes it very enjoyable. Service is standard. The restaurant itself is set in an old house, likely over 60 years old, but it has been well maintained and still feels charming.
