Recently visited Lakomka in Patong, and it ended up being one of those memorable, slightly quirky dining experiences. If you’ve been in Thailand for a while and start craving something different, this place really hits the spot. The food is very much home-style Russian cooking — think rich borscht, dumplings, and hearty comfort dishes that feel like they came straight from a family kitchen. Many visitors say it tastes “just like home,” and I can see why. What makes the place stand out even more is the vibe. It’s not polished or fancy — more like stepping into a small, nostalgic Soviet-era dining room. And yes, there’s that iconic “babushka” cook energy behind it. Slightly serious face, not overly chatty, but you can tell the cooking comes from experience and tradition. That contrast actually adds charm — it feels authentic rather than staged. Some people even mention the “grumpy but kind” grandma presence as part of the experience. The atmosphere is cozy and a bit old-school, with friendly but simple service. It’s the kind of place where you go for the food, not for Instagram. Portions are generous, and prices are reasonable for Patong. That said, it’s not perfect. Service can be a bit hit-or-miss, and sometimes dishes or menu items aren’t available, which a few guests have pointed out. Overall:.
