I am writing this in response to a very unpleasant lunch experience (with clients, no less) at your Le Binchotan outlet today.
The main incident involved one of your restaurant’s well-recommended dish - the Beef Cheek.
Two-thirds of the way through the main course (the Beef Cheek), I found a 2-3 centimeter long piece of plastic that was discovered as I bit on a hard, sharp object while chewing on the beef. Upon discovery, my colleague and I alerted Christian to show him the out-of-place object from my main dish. Whilst he did apologize and take away the remaining portion of the main dish, no replacement was offered. He simply scolded the kitchen staff and went back to his bar chores.
At the end of our meal, we told Christian that no replacement dish was provided post the aforementioned incident, and he replied that I was "almost done eating" anyways. We expressed that it is not typical restaurant practice to not offer a replacement, but he insisted that he had already modified the bill to reflect a two-course charge, rather than a three-course charge. As much as we did appreciate that gesture, his condescending tone that followed was completely unacceptable.
He stated that if I were still hungry, he could "offer me more mash potatoes.”
I didn’t need “more mash potatoes” to be satiated, as I wanted to enjoy the meal that I had hoped to and looked forward to enjoy at Le Binchotan. If “more mash potatoes” is your company’s standard solution to potentially injuring your guests and not letting them finish their entire meal, it’s an utterly disappointing truth for me accept.
It was one of the most disappointing dining experience I have had in Singapore (since moving here two years ago), and it was also an embarrassment for your organization in front of my colleagues and our clients.
Good luck on retaining guests for your establishment, as you’ve lost at least seven customers today. Thank you.
