Wanted to try this chix rice place. They own the Taiwanese porridge restaurant beside as well. Seems to be known for their kampong chix. I ordered the normal plate for one pax ($5.80) and added a braised egg ($1.20). My plate looks disappointing when served. It was pure tits meat without any skin. The sauce that they drizzle on my rice reminds me of Tong Fong Fa chix rice, which is a chain that’s popular among hawker centres. The rice is quite flavorful and the chili is pretty thick. I like the chili the most. At least it’s not watery. But my chix is disappointing.. How can you serve me a plate of tits meat without skinwalao wei..this is not pri sch canteen food eh. Total bill comes to $7.70 include GST.. and what’s with the 1% service charge.. first time seeing this weird figure. Wouldn’t revisit Meal type: Lunch Price per person: SGD 1–10

Tucked away along Changi Road, Le Cheng Kampong Hainanese Chicken Rice quietly delivers something special the kind of comforting, nostalgic meal that feels like a warm hug after a long day. I’d heard about this place being opened by Ah Seng (yes, the same one behind Gu Zao Ren Taiwanese Porridge), so I knew I had to try it. And I’m glad I did. I ordered their signature Kampong Chicken Rice, and added extra egg and tofu because those are my go-to comfort sides. The chicken came out looking silky and tender, lightly glazed with soy sauce and sesame oil. One bite and I knew this wasn’t just any chicken it had that slight firmness and depth of flavor that only kampong (free-range) chicken delivers. It tasted clean, pure, and lovingly prepared. The rice was just as impressive fluffy, aromatic, and rich without being greasy. It carried the essence of chicken stock and garlic, with that subtle chicken oil aroma that real Hainanese rice lovers will recognize instantly. Every mouthful brought a little joy. Even the soup something many places treat as an afterthought was flavorful and soothing. Clear, but full-bodied, like something brewed at home by someone who knows what they’re doing. It reminded me of the kind of soups my grandmother used to make: simple, nourishing, unforgettable. The egg and tofu were satisfying little bonuses the egg was soft-boiled just right, and the tofu had soaked up all the good flavors on the plate. No regrets adding those. The place itself is clean, air-conditioned, and unpretentious. You can tell the focus is on the food. Service was quick and efficient, and the staff made you feel like you were in good hands no fuss, just good food done right. They also serve claypot soups like White Pepper Chicken and Hainanese Mutton, plus a Salted Braised Duck that I definitely have my eye on for next time. There's something about Le Cheng that feels like it's been there forever even though it only opened in 2024. It’s got that old-school charm that makes you want to come back with your family.
