Located in the heart of the CBD at the IOI building, Les Canons is a charming bistro that unfortunately fell short of expectations during our Tuesday dinner. The Food: We ordered a wide spread, including the Steak au Poivre, Confit de Canard, Beef Cheeks, Coq au Vin, and Halibut. The Confit de Canard was the highlight—well-executed and highly recommended—alongside the Halibut and tender Beef Cheeks. However, some dishes were overly salty. The steak was disappointing; despite being cooked medium-rare, the cut was tough and lacked fat rendering, with a heavy sauce that masked the natural flavor of the meat. The Service Issue: Despite being a Tuesday, the restaurant was crowded, and service felt rushed. A significant incident occurred when a staff member spilled food onto a leather bag. Accidents happen, but the response was unacceptable. The waiter (whom appeared to be a Malay guy) initially dismissed the stain as "just water" until shown a stained tissue. While the manager eventually offered free desserts, no practical assistance—such as leather wipes or cleaning solutions—was offered to mitigate the immediate damage. Leather is porous and organic; once a food stain sets, the damage is often permanent, as evidenced by the marks remaining even after cleaning. The Environment: In a small CBD establishment, it is surprising that no bag baskets or covers are provided. Seeing customers forced to place bags on the floor is disappointing—not only is it unsanitary, but in many cultures, it’s considered poor form for wealth. A simple mesh or felt basket would have prevented this entire ordeal. It only takes one lapse in professionalism to ruin a night. If you value your belongings, please be mindful when dining here.
