A Lunchtime Trip to "London" Around lunchtime, our itinerary gave us a humorous little surprise. Despite being firmly in the Deep South of Thailand, our tour group was scheduled for a midday meal in "London"—which turned out to be London Restaurant, a legendary, decades-old culinary staple in downtown Pattani. The food absolutely lived up to its reputation; every single dish served was perfectly seasoned and incredibly flavorful. As we finished up, the restaurant owner came over to our table for a warm, friendly chat. He proudly mentioned that their Hoi Jo (Deep-fried Crab Meat Rolls) is their absolute signature masterpiece. He kindly urged us to come back whenever we find ourselves in town, noting that the local economy has been exceptionally quiet lately. He asked if we could spread the word to fellow travelers to help keep historic, independent businesses like his going. It’s an endorsement I am more than happy to pass along.
