One of the better Fish Soup stalls if u are in AMK area. Used to come here for lunch. Had the $7 Batang fish soup. The standard is still good. Nothing fanciful, just pure wholesome fish slices in clear fish broth. And their fish are fresh, and the fish slices are very generously thick… especially nowadays fish is so expensive. Enjoy! I actually came here to check out another fish soup stall, but it was closed. Perhaps it was a blessing in disguise, as I wouldn't have discovered this one otherwise. Despite it being close to lunchtime on a Saturday, the hawker center wasn't too crowded. The stall only had one other customer, though I did spot others already enjoying their food. I went with the Batang Fish Soup ($5.50), adding thick bee hoon, bitter gourd, and fish roe for a total of $7.50. The soup here is very light, likely made from just fish bones. They added sole fish powder to enhance the broth, just like in the old days. I don't usually ask for an extra scoop, but I'm glad I did today. With two scoops, the stock was perfect: light yet umami. The serving is really generous. The thick fish slices were a pleasant surprise. They tasted so fresh and were lightly seasoned, and the skin was left on, which added extra flavour to the soup. The fish roe was incredibly soft and fresh, with absolutely no fishy smell. Many places tend to deep fry them to mask the smell these days, so I'm glad they serve it the traditional way here. Even the condiments offered, Teochew-style salted beans and chilli padi, are traditional. They also offer fish oil, which I have not seen it elsewhere. Overall, this is a solid find if you love real, traditional Teochew fish soup. The only thing I can nitpick is the terrible music from the live busker band outside the hawker center. Very bad experience. Usually no queue as there are 2 better fish soup stalls there. But decided to joined a queue formed as the other 2 were closed even though the standard has dropped a lot. Waited for more than 45 mins and told abruptly all fish soup has been sold out. Never ever again. Service: 1
