mostly occupied by a restaurant, the renovation is nice but the seeing could be done in 10 mins.

This is a new heritage attraction which opened earlier this year in Fanling, making use of the reburbished 1950's era market building along Luen Wo Hui street in Fanling. Opening hours are 8am to 9pm daily and entry is free to the public. Historically, this was an important food market building to foster food trade and basic commercial activity for the area residents, which was much needed during the immediate post WWII era after mass immigration from mainland saw population in this area swell. It was the largest market in the New Territories at that time and served the community for just over 50 years before closing down in 2002. Now the old Luen Wo Market has been restored and revitalised into a local heritage attraction where you can visit and explore indoor and outdoor areas of the old market building. Within there are three main buildings, the centre is where you find stalls with local small businesses selling local foods, candies and other items. There is a small coffee kiosk here called Let It Be as well. The left side building hosts a neat little restaurant called Wake Up Bistro selling affordable all day 'western' style breakfast dishes and coffee drinks. The right side building acts as a museum with displays and audio (barcodes) revealing much about the history of the Luen Wo Market and some neat facts about its purpose to the local community over the years. Overall, this is a nice heritage preservation endeavour and something well worth making time to see if visiting Fanling. It is a very good add-on if you plan to see the nearby attractions that make up the Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail.
