Makimiki is a Japanese sushi spot charging about $30 per roll. I expected something exquisite, but honestly, it was pretty average. There was no line when we arrived, and we waited around 15–25 minutes for our food, which felt like a long time. When the rolls arrived, we weren’t impressed. The portion size was decent, so in terms of value it wasn’t terrible, but the flavours and combinations didn’t work for me. We ordered their recommended rolls, which isn’t their fault—it was on me for trusting the hype—but they just didn’t hit. The ingredients were fresh, but nothing came together well. The worst was the eel roll; there were still bones in the eel that made it impossible to eat without spitting bits out. The crispy panko was okay, but overall it didn’t save the rolls.
