Serendipity! Wanting to escape from the torrential rain, in search of Jeju Black Pork, we dashed into the first Black Pork restaurant that we saw. Maesdol (The rain was running off us in rivers. One of the staff brought me paper towels to dry my face and hair!) It wasn't a posh place, but that can be a good sign, and so it proved. You sit on a round keg type stool, at a round metal table, with a chimney hanging above it, and a hole in the middle for the little cooker that they bring. We had to guess how much to order, because it wasn't in English. We thought that we needed to order rice, but we really didn't need it. The food kept arriving! Beginning with the marinaded Black Pork, which had to be stir fried at the table. Then, sliced garlic, bean sprouts, a red sauce, (& two other vegetables that I can't remember,) to add to the stir fry. Then came two types of Kimchi, steamed egg, and two different salads. (One of them contained Coriander, so it may have been intended for the stir fry as well.) There were tons of food, all delicious, and including two beers, it came to about £17. The pigs that are used for this type of pork are well looked after, given a relaxed and happy life, which they believe adds to the flavour. I would not disagree. The meat was tasty, marbled through, and tender. You didn't need a lot because it was so flavoursome.
