Don't come here if you don't want to support animal cruelty! A few weeks ago (only posting this now to not get into any legal trouble) we had dinner in the restaurant on the other side of the road. As it was already dark, two stray cats were out on the street roaming around. Meanwhile, a guy working in the Magic Island Bar was carrying stuff out the front door. When one of the cats sat down near the entrance, he put down the things he'd been holding onto and literally proceeded to kick the cat like it was a football. He didn't just lightly tap it or scare it away, it was a full-on hit to the cat's stomach which you could hear from across the street. It was so violent that the cat flew over a good part of the road and almost got hit by a passing car as there was a lot of traffic at the time. The guy just cursed and walked back into the bar. After getting back up on it's feet, the cat ran off, curled up under a car and started whining extremely loudly. We tried to approach it to see if it had any obvious injuries, but it wouldn't let us come closer and seemed hella scared. Even though we saw quite a lot of stray animals in bad conditions in Thailand, this was quite a heartbreaking sight as it was just so uncalled-for. Before the incident, we'd watched the cats roaming for over half an hour and they literally never bothered/came near anyone or stepped into our restaurant/other buildings. Even if the guy from the bar didn't want any cats near his property, there were sooo many better ways to handle this properly. What makes it worse is this places obvious reference to alt/hippie culture and aestethic which now seems very hypocritical. At least the employee we saw doesn't seem to reflect the underlying values at all :(
