I recently visited “Manseon”, a restaurant in Yonggang-dong, Mapo, famous for its altang (Korean fish roe stew). After spending many years abroad in Australia, I came back to Korea with my family and wanted to enjoy a warm, comforting Korean dish — so we made a special trip to Mapo just for this. The restaurant was spotless and well-kept, even the restroom was incredibly clean, which immediately gave us confidence in the kitchen’s hygiene. As being chef over 15 years of experience, I was already expecting great food — and we weren’t disappointed. The owner personally brought out the dishes and kindly explained everything, including how to best enjoy the meal. We ordered altang (fish roe stew) and fried shrimp, and even the side dishes — small squid and octopus salted seafood — were delicious and full of flavor. The altang itself was outstanding. It came with a very generous amount of roe, to the point it almost felt too much — definitely great value for the price! The side dishes were refillable from a self-service bar, and the taste of the stew was mild and comforting, much like homemade Korean food, rather than overly spicy like you might find at pubs or sashimi restaurants. The bits of sea squirts (mideodeok) inside added a fun and tasty surprise. During my one-month stay in Korea, I’ve visited many restaurants, but this is the first one that made me want to leave a review. With its clean atmosphere, heartfelt cooking, and warm hospitality, Manseon truly stood out. If you’re ever in Mapo and looking for a hearty, authentic Korean meal, I highly recommend visiting Manseon Altang. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: ₩10,000–20,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
