If you're anywhere near Si Racha, McCallen Brewing Bar deserves a spot at the top of your list. They run a fine-dining tasting menu with a theme that changes every three months, and the current one is "France x Disney" — a French tasting menu told through Disney and Pixar films. It's as charming and creative as it sounds, but the real surprise is how serious the cooking is underneath the playful concept. Highlights from a six-course journey: "The Gray Stuff," a delicate amuse-bouche of kani miso and ricotta with a mango truffle canapé; "Mushu Flavour," a rich four-cheese risotto crowned with eggs and bacon; and a soulful New Orleans-style shrimp and smoked sausage gumbo served with toasted baguette. The mains showed real patience and technique — duck slow-cooked for five hours, plated Ratatouille-style with a bright citrus salad, and a linguini with smoked beef that had spent nine hours over smoke, finished in a café de Paris sauce. Dessert, "Who is the Fairest of Them All," arrived as a glossy white-chocolate caramelized apple with custard — a nod to Snow White that was as beautiful as it was delicious. To pair, they offered two recommendations and we chose the white — a lovely 2023 Mosel Riesling Spätlese that cut through the richness perfectly. The value genuinely surprised us: 3,400 THB for two across all six courses, plus 1,290 THB for the bottle. For cooking and presentation at this level, that's a steal. The service matched the food. Our host spoke excellent English, asked about allergies before we began, and explained every course as it arrived. The whole evening felt thoughtful, generous and genuinely fun. (I'll admit a small point of pride — apparently I was the first guest to finish every single course!). Creative, delicious, beautifully run, and great value.
