A café in Phuket naming itself “Melbourne” is either supreme confidence or a hostage to fortune. You’re inviting every Australian within scooter range to walk in, arms folded, ready to be disappointed. Then it turns out the owner is the Australian, and the confidence is earned. For context, this is the Phuket Coffee Lab people reborn — the same crew that’s been roasting on this island since 2010, now occupying the old Siam Supper Club bones on Lagoon Road with a serious bakery program bolted on. This place isn’t a startup finding its feet; it’s veterans with a new sign. The flat white is the test, and it passes. Properly textured milk, no bitterness hiding in the finish, served at a temperature suggesting someone back there actually drinks coffee rather than merely selling it. The owner himself walked me through the sizing — not upselling, just a man genuinely concerned that I understand the ratio implications of my decisions, which is exactly the breed of pedantry you want from someone running a roastery. Kind, knowledgeable, clearly cares. By Bang Tao standards, where “flat white” often means a latte with commitment issues, this is the real article. The almond croissant earns its counter space — actual lamination, actual frangipane, not the sweetened bread cosplay that passes for viennoiserie in most of Cherngtalay. Bacon and eggs with poached eggs: eggs poached correctly, which sounds like a low bar until you’ve spent enough time watching this island serve poached eggs in every state of matter except the right one. Bacon was bacon. No complaints, no poetry. On a previous visit I had the double cheeseburger, which some have crowned the best in Phuket. I won’t go that far in print, but it’s a serious burger from a kitchen that clearly isn’t treating lunch as an afterthought to the coffee. The room: power outlets at every table, so the laptop class has already colonized it, myself occasionally included. Opens at 7am, which in this neighborhood is practically heroic. Five stars, and I don’t hand those out as a greeting. The rare Bang Tao café where the name writes a check the espresso machine can actually cash. Definitely one of our favorite spots in Laguna That chicken salad with the sauce to die for - top top top! Specialty coffee alongside with the tropical bowl - perfect combo! Try it, you won’t regret! Meal type: Brunch Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Checked out this new café called Melbourne and it’s already a favourite. The vibe is super relaxed, the staff are genuinely friendly, and the owners are always around for a welcoming chat. Also the coffee is easily some of the best around. They have an awesome menu and pricing is pretty decent. Their bakery options are some of the tastiest; cookies, croissants, cinnamon rolls are all top notch. Cute little slice of Australia. Definitely worth a visit if you’re nearby. Meal type: Brunch
