I used to really enjoy sushi in Chiang Mai at a few different sushi shops, you know the little ones scattered around town, not too expensive. Since returning from Japan I have not been able to go back to them, I know what they are and now I know what sushi should be. I went very modest at Minato because I saw rolls with globs of sauce and mayonnaise--this to me is a sign of novelty rolls and covering up bad fish. I took a few pieces of salmon and tuna. They were delicious and fresh. Fresh as in you savor the taste of the fish in your mouth, slowly chewing and turning the piece, picking out the subtle sweet and sour notes of the rice-this is how I like to eat sushi. I ordered more pieces of salmon and tuna. Presentation was simple and precise. Menu was a bit overwhelming but IMO you can't go wrong with the simple basic pieces. Definitely my go to spot for sushi from here on out in Chiang Mai. 9 pieces and a soda water came to ฿412, I went in around 8:45pm and was the only customer.
