There’s a scene from an old favorite sitcom of mine Parks and Recreation where the penultimate hero Ron Swanson is disappointed that his boss wanted to go on a health crusade by removing red meat items from the buildings commissary. To settle their dispute Ron and his boss (Chris Traeger played by 80s heart throb Rob Lowe) decide to have a cook off. The contestants are Chris’ healthy artisanal no red meat Turkey burger vs Ron’s good old fashioned beef hamburger. After much praise from the judges with Mr. Traeger’s Turkey burger with fancy ingredients. Ron continues to serve the judging panel just a simple hamburger with simple ingredients. After one bite every one of the judges responded in absolute excess and immediate praise about how Ron’s simple burger was so much better than the intricate “gourmet turkey burger” that Traeger had spent years perfecting. When I bit into Mirror Burger’s cheese burger I immediately thought of this scene and how delicious it must have been. The beef was juicy and full of flavor. The secret sauce complimented it well with a subtle yet multilayered flavor. And the bun (Michelin recipe Nissin Flour bun?) was soft and perfectly absorbed the explosion of patty juices to create that perfect burger bite. If that judging panel had tasted this Mirror burger I think it would’ve been just as good if not better than Ron Swanson’s creation. I’ll be back here every time I crave a nice burger. Wouldn’t have expected this flavor and quality from such a lovely small shop. I get this experience in random spots when I visit Japan but rarely in HK. The owners have that mindset to serve amazing quality at a great price. I’ll be sure to let more folks know about this burger gem and its amazing Ron Swanson level hamburger. Ps they had some healthier veg options as well I’ll be sure to try and review. I also enjoyed how they paid attention to the design elements of the packaging and creative copy writing on the menu.
